Use three passes to create a 4-8 character ID
In the first pass, find one pronounceable core, usually built from two short syllables. In the second, remove spellings that are too close to a brand, pro player, or popular character. Only then create a few platform-specific variations.
Do not sacrifice readability just to reach four characters. An invented six-character name that is easy to say is usually more memorable than four characters built from confusing letters and random digits.
- Ask another player to repeat the spelling after hearing it once
- Compare lowercase, initial-cap, and all-caps versions visually
- Check both format and real availability on every platform you plan to use
